In May of this
year I made an appointment to visit with the owner of a local
art gallery. I went in with framed and matted photos, as I
wanted to discuss and perhaps obtain pointers on presentation.
The minute I unwrapped the five, framed photos the owner said
to me, “Oh, well, I can tell you I want these photos
right now!” I wasn’t sure if I realized the meaning
of what she was saying, as I was extremely nervous, and okay,
a little scared walking in there. My work was accepted for
the month of June in the Doiron Gallery in North Sacramento.
(I will mention what I learned from this experience and
that is, photography is the slowest moving art medium there
is. Not all galleries accept photography.) It was
an exciting event for me. A popular event in the art community
is to have a Second Saturday Art Walk. What that means is
that all the galleries are open late in the evening, and
the public gallery hops from one to another. Most galleries
have a featured artist, serve wine and other refreshments.
The good news was that I sold a total of four photos! Bonus:
The gallery held my photos over for a second month!!
Finding a gallery is up to the artist. Now I need to go
out there and hit the pavement again and find another gallery.
With my web site up and running I’ll just have to
see what the ‘public’ thinks of my photos and
if they want to buy them!
