FRANCE - MUSÉES d'ORSAY & RODIN - B&W
On our last day in Paris we went to the Musée d'Orsay. I loved this place. The Gare d'Orsay was a turn-of-the-century railway station designed by Victor Laloux and later converted to a museum. The d'Orsay displays famous artwork from the period 1848 to World War I. With the frosted glass ceiling, the natural lighting was out of this world! We also visited the Musée Rodin. I didn't realize that small models of the actual sculptures were made first. Most of these photos are of the models - they were small and I was able to get up close.

Outside the Museum
This statue was just down the street from the museum.
Bronze Statue
This was one of the first works of art that greeted us: a bronze statue of a mandolin player.
Bronze Statue Closeup
Main Floor
This gives you an idea of how large the museum was. I was on the third landing when I took this shot.
Magnificent Clock
I didn't take any color shots inside the museum, just B&W with no flash. Just wanted to point out that the clock is gilded gold!
d'Orsay Hallway
In between each two pillars were the Impressionists' artwork on display.
d'Orsay View #2
Lady in the Spotlight
Dance
This masterpiece was created by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux 1865-1869 as commissioned to capture "...women encircling the spirit of dance".
Magnificent Clock #2
Back of the Clock
Just in case you wanted to know how the thing runs! It appeared very complex.
Gates of Hell
This is a small portion of the 'model' for Rodin's famous Gates of Hell sculpture.
d'Orsay in Cinemascope
When I saw this view coming down the stairs, and in between the two levels, it reminded me of an old Cinemascope movie!
d'Orsay Ornamentation
On display were various samples of the museum's ornamentation.
Le Musée Rodin - Rodin Chandelier
I was in heaven with the architecture, and in this case, the light from the chandelier just happened to catch my eye.
Camille Claudel's The Wave
I told my sisters this was the three of us!

Young Girl
The Monument to the Burghers of Calais
Created in 1889 to honor the heroism of six citizens of Calais who, after a long seige of the city, handed over the keys to King Edward III in 1347.
Rodin Gardens
It is said that Auguste Rodin loved his gardens. In the background you can see the gilded dome over Napoleon's tomb at Les Invalides.
Three Sisters
Here we are again!!
Auguste Rodin's Le Sommeil
Sculpted in 1829, it looks great in B&W. Actually, it looks like this in real life!
Rodin Stairway
Geometric design with a touch of French Quarter - that's how I see it.
Man Servant
I believe this was either Rodin's or a friend's man servant who he used for a model.
Frightening Model
Any way I looked at this one, it scared me at every angle.
Rodin's The Thinker
Here's one of the model of the famous "Thinker".
